My Favorite Knitting Highlights of 2021
Today, I’m looking back on my favorite knitting highlights of 2021. This year included: a couple of new blanket knitting pattern designs (including my first every multi-colorway blanket design); reading about and test knitting with many yarns; knitting with my dear friend and helping her with a special baby blanket project; a feature in The Loopy Ewe’s Designer Spotlight series; a gorgeous baby blanket knitting kit offered by Unravelled in New Zealand that features my easy-to-knit blanket pattern; attempting to organize all of my yarn (yet again!); and marking eight years of designing knitting patterns in early November… my in-laws surprised me with a cake to celebrate!
It’s pretty obvious from this collection of photos I shared on Instagram during 2021, that my favorite colorways this year were teal blues, grays, and a little bit of mustard yellow. (This selection of colorways was not planned in advance!) Keep reading below for more details!
LOOK FOR HAPPINESS BLANKET KNITTING PATTERN:
In February, the Look for Happiness blanket knitting pattern was released. This design was inspired by frequent requests for a worsted weight version of my popular Over the Rooftops chunky blanket pattern.
I’m thrilled that the Look for Happiness blanket pattern has quickly become a customer favorite! The PDF pattern includes instruction for six blanket sizes so it’s easy to pick the size that works for your project needs.

YARN SUGGESTIONS FOR BLANKET KNITTING:
In the spring and fall, I spent a lot of time adding to my knowledge about the many yarns available for blanket knitting. I shared some of my favorite yarns for blanket knitting in these blog posts about worsted, bulky and super bulky yarns:

A ONE-OF-A-KIND BABY BLANKET PROJECT:
In the summer, my dear friend finished a one-of-a-kind baby blanket using my On the Porch blanket knitting pattern and a gorgeous variegated yarn. As I showed her how to block the blanket, we reminisced about my mother teaching her to knit when we were teenagers.

MODERN COLOR-BLOCK BLANKET KNITTING PATTERN:
In September, the Light in the Window blanket knitting pattern was released. Many requests for a blanket knitting design incorporating multiple colorways led to this easy to knit, modern color-block design.
Customize the blanket by selecting your choice of five colorways in Lion Brand Basic Stitch Anti-Pilling or your favorite worsted weight yarn. See several color combination ideas in my blog post about the pattern.
