Place Like Home blanket features a 20-row repeat basket weave stitch pattern framed by a garter stitch border. The stitch pattern is interesting to knit! The perfect combination of knit and purl stitches creates the illusion of woven ribbons of knitting.
This pattern is designed for worsted #4 weight yarn.
The PDF knitting pattern has instructions for six blanket sizes including: baby blanket, large throw and afghan.
This blanket design is the lighter weight version of my popular All These Places blanket pattern for bulky #5 weight yarn. The appearance is the same… but all of the stitch counts are adapted to work with worsted #4 weight yarn.
As you may have guessed, the name for the Place Like Home blanket knitting pattern is inspired by Dorothy’s famous line in The Wizard of Oz: “There’s no place like home.” Each home has a unique assortment of colors, furniture, mementos, photographs, family heirlooms, and much more. Over time, the significance of our personal items is woven together with cherished memories of everyday events, traditions and special occasions. Our homes are a place to create our own space that tells our own story. Hopefully, when you step through the door at home… you feel a sense of connection… that your place is like no other. It’s your place like home.
“Any time we have a customer that asks us for a blanket pattern, we immediately show them your patterns first! They never look anywhere else.”
This pattern was test knit by ten Ravelry knitters.

DIRECTIONS FOR SIX BLANKET SIZES:
Approximate sizes after blocking…
Baby Blanket: 26.5” wide x 32” long
Small Blanket: 30.5” wide x 37” long
Medium Blanket: 34.5” wide x 45” long
Large Throw: 36.5” wide x 48” long
XL Throw: 40.5” wide x 50.5” long
XXL Afghan: 46” wide x 56” long
Finished size may vary depending on yarn weight and gauge used.
Any of the sizes may be made longer by adding pattern repeats. Each pattern repeat adds about.2.5” to the length of the blanket. Pattern includes estimates for additional yardage needed to make each size longer.

Small Blanket: 1140 - 1200 yards
Medium Blanket: 1380 - 1450 yards
Large Throw: 1600 - 1680 yards
XL Throw: 1900 - 2000 yards

Be sure to buy additional yarn if you plan to add length to your project.

If you plan to use bulky #5 weight yarn… please see my All These Places blanket knitting pattern.
GAUGE:
Pattern stitch with US size 7 needles: approximately 20 stitches & 28 - 29 rows = 4”
Exact gauge is not essential. This stitch pattern looks best with fairly tight stitches.
I used US size 7 knitting needles. Choose the needle size that gives the best appearance with your yarn and your knitting tension.
NEEDLES:
Blanket knit flat, in one piece, back and forth on circular knitting needles in order to accommodate the large number of stitches.
SKILL LEVEL: Easy for a confident knitter
This pattern is easy to knit for a confident knitter. The pattern uses only knit and purl stitches. The pattern requires attention to detail working a 20-row repeat stitch pattern.
You will need to know how to cast on stitches, knit and purl confidently, read a row by row knitting pattern, bind off stitches and weave in ends.
Blocking of finished knitting is highly recommended. See my blog post for step-by-step tips and photos.
This pattern is written in English using standard U.S. knitting terms.
Written pattern with row by row instructions.
