River of Dreams is a chunky, modern bed runner accent blanket which features a giant cable and seed stitch border. This blanket adds a layer of coziness to your bed! The bold cable design adds texture and interest to any decor style. This project is fun to knit with super bulky yarn.
The pattern includes instructions for four bed runner sizes: twin, full, queen and king size.
Basic cable knitting experience recommended.
As of January 2022, this pattern has a rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars on Ravelry for clarity of instructions and 4.6 out of 5 stars for overall results.
DIRECTIONS FOR FOUR SIZES:
Approximate sizes after blocking…
Twin Bed Runner: 23” wide x 65” long
Full Bed Runner: 23” wide x 81” long
Queen Bed Runner: 23” wide x 89” long
King Bed Runner: 23” wide x 105” long
All sizes are 23” wide and the length is designed to drape approximately 14 - 15” over each side of the bed.
Note: This is an accent blanket for the end of the bed. It is not designed to cover the entire bed.
It’s easy to make any of the blanket sizes longer by adding cable repeats. Pattern includes estimates for additional yardage needed to make blankets longer.
SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate
Experience with basic cable knitting is highly recommended. You will also need to know how to cast on stitches, knit and purl confidently, read a row by row knitting pattern, bind off stitches and weave in ends.
For best results, blocking of finished blanket is recommended.
SUPER BULKY #6 WEIGHT YARN:
Twin Bed Runner: 550 - 575 yards
Full Bed Runner: 670 - 700 yards
Queen Bed Runner: 720 - 750 yards
King Bed Runner: 900 - 950 yards
This pattern will work well with many super bulky weight yarns. I loved using Lion Brand Hometown super bulky yarn in ‘Springfield Silver’. This yarn is very soft and has an attractive subtle sheen that gives a modern vibe. Other options include Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick and Lion Brand Re-Spun Thick & Quick.
You may also experiment with knitting two strands of bulky or worsted weight yarn together…remember you will need about twice as much yardage!
Be sure to buy additional yarn if you plan to add length to your blanket.
GAUGE:
Stockinette stitch with US size 15 needles: approximately 8 - 8.5 stitches & 11 rows = 4”
Exact gauge is not essential. However, for desired appearance it should be close.
NEEDLES:
Knit flat, in one piece, back and forth on US size 15 knitting needles. (Circular or long straight needles.)
US size 15 knitting needles - at least 14” long.
I prefer circular knitting needles in order to have lots of room for the stitches
Written pattern with row by row instructions.
