Winter Dance blanket knitting pattern is easy to knit with super bulky yarn. The center pattern is a 4-row repeat that is very easy to remember. The blanket is framed by a classic, easy-to-knit seed stitch border.
I love the chunky texture of this blanket! It's big, thick and cozy....perfect for cold winter nights.
As of November 2021, this pattern has a rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars on Ravelry for overall results and 5 out of 5 stars for clarity of instructions.
DIRECTIONS FOR SIX BLANKET SIZES:
Approximate sizes after blocking…
Baby/Infant: 30” wide x 32” long
Small/Crib/Lap Blanket: 34” wide x 39.5” long
Medium Throw: 38” wide x 44” long
Large Throw: 42” wide x 48” long
XL Afghan: 46” wide x 57” long
XXL Afghan: 52” wide x 60” long
Any of the blanket sizes may be made longer by adding pattern repeats. Each pattern repeat adds about 1.25” - 1.5” to the length of the blanket. Pattern includes estimates for additional yardage needed to make blankets longer.
SUPER BULKY #6 WEIGHT YARN:
Baby: 300 - 320 yards
Small: 460 - 480 yards
Medium: 570 - 600 yards
Large: 690 - 730 yards
XL: 900 - 950 yards
XXL: 1100 - 1165 yards
This pattern will work well with many super bulky weight yarns. I loved using Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick in the color ‘Denim’. Another yarn to consider is Lion Brand Hometown super bulky - it’s very soft with great stitch definition. See more yarn suggestions in my blog post about super bulky yarns.
Be sure to buy additional yarn if you plan to add length to your blanket.
The texture of the pattern will show up best with solid color yarn.
If you prefer worsted weight yarn…please see my Dance on the Breeze blanket knitting pattern.
GAUGE:
Stockinette stitch with US size 15 needles: approximately 8 stitches & 12 rows = 4”
Exact gauge is not essential. However, for desired appearance it should be close.
NEEDLES:
Knit flat, in one piece, back and forth on US size 15 circular knitting needles.
In order to accommodate the large number of stitches, long circular needles are highly recommended.
SKILL LEVEL: Easy for a confident knitter
You will need to know how to cast on stitches, knit and purl confidently, read a row by row knitting pattern, bind off stitches and weave in ends.
For best results, blocking of finished blanket is recommended.
Written pattern with row by row instructions.
This pattern is written in ENGLISH using standard U.S. knitting terms.
